Realm Charter School receives approval from BUSD to move forward on 8th at Addison

this is Evan's personal impression

After attending the community meeting and the BUSD School Board meeting, it seems clear that we will have a new school in the neighborhood in September.  John did everything possible and remains on top of the situation, but there isn't anything to be done except hold them to their promises to minimize the effect on the neighborhood in terms of noise, traffic and parking.  It will be 200 kids in 2011-2012 and 300 kids in 2012-2013.  You can read more about them and their admirable vision on their nifty website.

How will this affect BPC?
At least 9 of the most convenient spots in the hotel parking lot will be permanently allocated to Realm, and it will become more challenging to find parking spots, metered or otherwise.  Also, the neighbors may become more overreactive to us as part of their overall frustration, so we will have to redouble our efforts to slow down and be respectful.  Realm's afterschool pickup plan is to have a line of cars along the north side of Addison and along 8th Street, with kids summoned by walkie-talkie wielding attendants.

If you feel motivated about this, first read some of the recent news stories to get better informed.

Some of the neighbors are forming a e-list to keep informed and theoretically to exert pressure on them to keep their agreement to follow the recommendations of the traffic impact report they've paid for. The traffic consultant was spotted on 8th Street on Wed May 18th.  Results expected by the end of May.
