Shawl-Anderson Dance Center was founded in Berkley in 1958 with a focus on modern dance.
Beginning Modern for ages 11-13 is for those new to modern dance. Instructor Jessica Damon teaches basic movement vocabulary, alignment, spatial awareness, and how to see, learn, and embody movement phrases in class. Class starts with a warm up, progresses into dance technique and culminates with fun and energizing locomotor movement, floor work and choreography. Students also spend some time working on generating their own movement and choreography and working together to build dances.

Our choir is expanding to include new members this month. Please join as at 1940 Virginia Street, for upcoming events
and to be a part of our exciting program for the winter spring semester:
1. Sign up for an audition appointment for this Thursday, January 5th (1/2 intervals from 4:30-6:30 PM) email us at kairoschoir@gmail.com. This is a low pressure and fun way to meet our staff and let them use their expert skill and experience to help you learn to sing your best! Please be prepared to sing a simple song of your choice "by heart" and leave the rest to us!
2. Email kairoschoir@gmail.com to set up an individual appointment on Tuesday or Thursday January 10 or 12th.
3. Join us for our Open House - Thursday, January 19 - Musical Games & Refreshments Bring a Friend to Choir day. Learn more about how our outstanding choral program works.

Kairos Youth Choir [Kairos-Greek: “Time measured by quality; harmonious moment”] provides a superb musical education and the exhilarating experience of performing beautiful choral music, opera and original musicals. Kairos singers learn music from the finest traditions of classical, jazz, gospel, and world music sung in their original languages.
Founded in 1990, the Choir has appeared with, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Opera, and the Mark Morris Dance Group. Internationally, the group has appeared at Tivoli Gardens, Denmark, throughout Scandinavia and Tuscany, Italy, and most recently the choir sang in the award winning Festival of the Aegean in Syros, Greece. In 2010, Kairos was recognized at the California State Senate for twenty years of excellence in the musical community.
